Gluons, Quarks, and the Transition from Nonperturbative to Perturbative Qcd
Lattice-based investigations of two fundamental QCD quantities are described, namely the gluon and quark propagators in Landau gauge. We have studied the Landau gauge gluon propagator using a variety of lattices with spacings from a = 0.17 to 0.41 fm to explore finite volume and discretization effects. We also introduce the general method of “tree-level correction” to minimize the effect of lat...
متن کاملNonperturbative harmonic generation in graphene from intense midinfrared pulsed light
In solids, high harmonic radiation arises from the subcycle dynamics of electrons and holes under the action of an intense laser field. The strong-field regime opens new opportunities to understand and control carrier dynamics on ultrafast time scales, including the coherent dynamics of quasiparticles such as massless Dirac fermions. Here, we irradiate monolayer and few-layer graphene with inte...
متن کاملStudy of the Transition to Instability in Second-Harmonic Generation with Scale Index Method
The emergence of second-harmonic generation (SHG) is a pivotal issue to the development of nano-optical devices and interfaces. Here, we perform a classical analysis of the SHG dynamics with the aim of determining critical values of the electric field. The signals of the SHG process are nonlinear, so it seems reasonable that chaos theory can be a suitable tool to analyze their dynamics. For thi...
متن کاملObservables Probing the Perturbative-Nonperturbative Transition Region in QCD
Benefiting from the high statistics from ee experiments at the Z resonance, it is possible to impose strong two-jet cuts on the data without losing the statistical significance. In these events perturbative activity is suppressed and hadronization effects can be more prominent. I give two examples of observables that can be important tools for a more detailed study of the hadronization mechanism.
متن کاملPerturbative and Nonperturbative Effects in Transverse Momentum Generation
The transverse momentum of a colour-singlet massive particle in a hadronic collision is built up by two components, the perturbative effect of parton branchings and the nonperturbative effect of primordial k⊥. In previous studies of transverse momentum spectra for Z production at the Tevatron, the best fit to the experimental data are given when the primordial k⊥ is set to a much higher value t...
